Win-Shin Chiang, of San Jose, says it best: “After years of drought we finally bit the bullet and converted our front lawn two years ago. We put in drought-tolerant, primarily California native plants. With the abundance of rain this year, the front yard has turned into a sea of flowers — grey globe mallow, Hot Lips salvia, Tulbaghia violacea, silver lupine, Cordyline, kangaroo paws, Mexican lobelia, Leucadendron and, of course, poppies, poppies and more poppies.
